On the heels of the article earlier this week on North Carolina Democratic U.S. Senate candidates J. Calvin Cunningham III and Erica D. Smith, a short video has emerged documenting Cunningham’s 2010 admission that, as a federal prosecutor at Fort Bragg, he worked with ICE to put together “a proper law enforcement response” against undocumented immigrants who showed up at the front gate of Fort Bragg pestering the guards there by asking for work.
Released by NC for Us (and apparently not authorized by any campaign or committee), the video is a 30-second snippet from Cal Cunningham’s 2010 primary runoff debate with Elaine Marshall. Its closing frames include the URL to the full debate video in C-SPAN’s dustiest archive. Having now watched the whole debate, I can attest that Cunningham’s snippet isn’t taken out of context. He seemed genuinely proud of his work with ICE, and clearly wanted voters to know about it...he just thought it should have been easier to detain and deport those pesky illegals. You simply can’t find good deportation help these days.
