This place is allegedly a “reality based” community. It hasn’t been in quite a while, but that is the claim. Nonetheless it is one thing to make rather absurd electoral predictions. It’s quite another to claim that there will be an attempted coup.
This just isn’t bordering on CT. It is CT. And it is CT being pushed by some who should know better. There are many important issues on which to be focused. This is not one.
Trump will leave office on January 20, 2021. He will whine all the way, complain that he would have won a fair election, milk more money from his followers, and perhaps do a few rallies where he will rail against his enemies, real and perceived. He may be preparing for a 2024 run, maybe trying to save face, or more likely is simply grifting again.
He may finally concede, but regardless, at the end of the day on January 20, Joe Biden will be in the White House as President of the United States.
Moreover, millions of Trump’s followers are not going to grab their guns and attempt to take over our our state capitals and “save” the election for Trump. There might be a few violent acts by some of his more crazy followers but there will be no mass uprising.
I live in a rural Republican area. Trump carried about 70% of the vote and more in some areas. There has been no outcry about the results. In fact most of the Trump signs, banners and flags are down. There is the usual grumbling and I’ve already heard one Republican complain about the stupidity of the American voter (Gosh … I’ve never heard that one before) but they have to go to work and earn a living. They don’t have the time or the inclination to man the barricades.
Besides it is likely that many folks in this area are quite aware that Trump is a phony. But he was very useful to them. The more affluent had their taxes cut and the religious conservatives got three new Supreme Court justices. He served their purposes and now they are moving on.
Perhaps we should too.
