Donald Trump lost the Presidential election of 2020. On January 20, 2021 he will leave office and Joe Biden will become the 46th President.
Yet nearly every day #trump and #DonaldTrump continue to be the top two hashtags here at Daily Kos. This site seems to be obsessed with Trump. I find it ironic that folks here have continually complained how the media gives him too much attention and yet Trump is the subject of more diaries than any other person or subject. I didn’t think he deserved that much attention over the last four years and he deserves even less now that he has lost.
I could understand four or five diaries a day about Trump, but for him to be the number one or two topic day after day is a bit puzzling, especially on a site whose stated purpose is electing more and better Democrats.
Oh I realize he says and does outrageous things; and if it’s one thing we love at DK, it is to be outraged. And guess what? After January 2o, Donald Trump will continue with the outrageous actions and words. I guarantee it. But he will be even less relevant than he is now, except perhaps at Daily Kos. So will Trump continue to be a dominant subject of DK diaries? I hope not.
And then there are the Trump voters. Daily Kos contributors continue to claim that these voters are not worth our time and to prove that, they write diary after diary explaining why Trump voters should be ignored and why they shouldn’t be forgiven. I live in an area that went overwhelmingly for Trump. People who voted for him could care less whether or not we forgive them. And it is likely that I care even less about forgiving them than they care about being forgiven. I’m not about to waste my time worrying about it.
As I travel through the area, I notice that most of the Trump signs are down. Most were taken down within the week after the election. The evangelicals got what they wanted from Trump (three Supreme Court justices) and the affluent got what they wanted (reduced taxes). Trump is old news. They’re moving on. Perhaps we would be wise to do the same.
[Yes I realize the irony posting of a diary with “Trump” in the title while decrying the proliferation of diaries about Trump.]
