I have always been a big fan of Buddy Holly. On the anniversary of his death, I feel the need to share this tiny bit of feel-good trivia. Back in the 80’s, when Mrs. ruleoflaw and I were first raising a family, I had a second-hand Chrysler Minivan with a cassette deck. I worked 2nd shift, so I had a lot of time to spend with my first-born daughter, the Librarian.
While bopping around in the minivan with pop, the Librarian got maximum exposure to Buddy Holly.
Anytime I couldn’t find my Buddy Holly’s greatest Hits cassette, it would turn up in the boom-box in her bedroom.
Fast-forward twenty years. The Librarian and her fiance are planning their wedding. They decide that rather than hiring a band for the reception, they would compile an mp3 playlist and just let it roll. After the dinner, and toasts, etc., when it came time for the bride and groom to have their first dance, this little ditty pops up:
Afterward, The librarian told me that, when she was little, she thought True Love Ways was the most romantic song she had ever heard. She used to listen to it on headphones in the dark, telling herself that if she ever got married, she would dance to this with her husband.
And so she did.
Music only dies if you let it.
Rave on.
