I mean come on. There’s an essay on the rec list here beseeching that #BernieSanders2020 get a grip on his surrogates. Because, the writer writes, Nina Turner called Michael Bloomberg an oligarch.
So I’m wondering if the same writer also called out Hillary Clinton and Martin O’Malley for their recent almost-identical personal attacks on Sanders (nobody likes him; he’s accomplished nothing)??? Maybe I missed it?
I encourage debate over policy and strategy to implement policy. I think Sanders should face heat for his ideas… he must make the case, not just things that sound good… but HOW will we get it done. So challenge that… legit. Necessary.
But here’s the thing: we are out of runway and in dire straits. So rather than get on Nina Turner about calling Mike Bloomfield an oligarch, how about exploring the ACTUAL positions of those who ask us to vote BLUE NO MATTER WHAT.
Like Tom Perez’ picks to chair the 2020 convention? Like Carol Browner, EPA head under Obama who as "a Clinton delegate, during the 2016 Platform Drafting Committee meeting, voted against a ban on fracking, Medicare For All, opposing the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), keeping fossil fuels in ground, and measure to halt abuse of eminent domain by fossil fuel industry." Not to mention the appointment of John Podesta and Barney Frank, both on the record as wanting to STOP Sanders because they support fossil fuels, TPP, fracking, Wall Street and, if I had to guess, WAR.
Let’s not forget the rule-bending the DNC has done to allow Bloomberg, who gave it $300,000, to join the debates in February.
So when someone on this site writes an essay defending billionaires who, btw do not share our mundane and everyday concerns... and I’m somewhat certain most of them could care less if fireflies go extinct, then I have to say: please make it stop.
We don’t have the luxury of lesser evils and we certainly don’t have the luxury to put people in positions of power who will continue to wage war (one of the worst assaults on climate/environment/living things), protect fossil fuel companies and CEOs, and refuse to hold Wall Street, industry, and politicians and presidents accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Maybe most of you think all we have to do is defeat Trump. I strongly disagree. If we don’t elect people to serve a human and planetary agenda (rather than agendas that gave Bloomberg his billions), it really doesn’t matter whether we have access to abortion or not, health care (rather than access to insurance...ACA ugh) et al.
I’m gobsmacked at what I perceive as a real lack of understanding who the bad guys/gals are. We must address both the elephant and donkey in the room if we are to survive.
