Everyone is counting delgates — which is important as they will determine the winner under the party rules. But how many voters have actually voted for each candidate? That number is not being tabulated in one place (anywhere I could find). So I hand tabulated the numbers from the CNN election page:
Collectively, there are just over 1,000,000 votes. I have shown before and after South Carolina because there are approximately 500,000 votes in each group — and the results are very different. Joe Biden now leads all voting by 65,000 votes.
I will not analyze what this means for each candidate or whether South Carolina is representative of Super Tuesday or whose votes go where when candidate X drops out, etc. Instead, this diary is intended to celebrate that one million Americans have now expressed their preference — and to show what the people actually chose (before 15% viability filters, etc. are applied).
