Well, we made it through the General Primary in DuPage. Good news in a world without much of that: they raised Election Judge pay from $10 an hour for Early Voting to $15, and from $130 for set up and the 15 hr primary to $200.
I also met a veterinarian looking for office staff… One I get internet access, I will apply.
This is where I was at about a week ago: I have presented my info to DuPage HUD, waiting to hear results or a request for more information regarding Section 8 Vouchers. I had 6 early voting days and the general election arranged (plus census). I had a telephone interview arranged for later today for a customer service job.
Oh, and the whack job accusing me of hate crimes has quieted down.
In addition, Monday before last a member of the Synagogue where the craziness happened worked, though the church assigned was a Muslim Mosque. Therefore, I was able to speak with Meryl and confirmed what I believed and hoped: The bully was not fed first and given a gift card to make her feel better after the injustices I'd done to her, but because she's obnoxious and loud and they wanted to quiet her. You BET I felt better after that confirmation.
And now, it's now.
All of the libraries are closed for a couple of weeks.
So are seating areas in any restaurant I can afford. Go ahead and try to find a bathroom during the day when you're homeless.
(The DuPage Forest Preserves are still open so far, thank goodness, as are their bathrooms.)
To get into a PADS site, you have to wait outside (even in the rain), have your temperature inaccurately taken (so far I have had 93, 91.5 and 90.7. Apparently I hath off ve hypothermia? Then they ask you: Have you been out of the country in the past 14 days or have you been in direct contact with someone who has? Do you have a fever, cough, sneezes, etc?
And then they are pushing the pads further apart – so that Monday night St Isidore’s, which usually hmmm houses up to 65 or 70 – took 40. And even though it is a vehicle site, people without vehicles got placed first. On Monday, that left spots for 4 left for men and 7 for women. I was glad to get in. (Fortunately, I put on my 4 AM alarm for election day, since the volunteers were too busy making lunches to watch the clock.)
I had been told I would get Late Arrival arrangements on Monday and Tuesday because of my Election Judge hours. That permission was removed on Monday – I was emailed about that. Fortunately, I did not need it on Monday.
We were then told that site 2 – the large site – was closed on Tuesday, leaving Itasca which normally holds 45, now to hold 23. Medinah, the large site on Saturday is closed.
While I worked Tuesday, the woman handling my HUD file left a message that HUD is closed and any meetings would be re-set when they re-open.
And I got two emails I saw later this morning: first, sorry but hirings are on hold in this uncertain time followed by we have reviewed your file and didn't pick you.
I'm hoping the trucks they send to collect the homeless and drive us to the middle of nowhere to Get Rid Of Us Permanently arrive soon. Tomorrow is fine with me.
