Bernie or Warren win the nomination and the election. The new president manages to implement UHC for all. The dream has become a reality, and everything is covered.
In the next election, the Republicans sweep the Congress and retake the presidency. The first thing they do is remove all women’s reproductive rights because “ taxpayers shouldn’t have to fund abortions or reproductive services. We have already seen this show in many incarnations already. With UHC there would be no private insurance, as all insurance would be government controlled. The new Republican government obviously would be dead set against women’s reproductive health care. ( as is the one now) with the same old line of “taxpayers shouldn’t pay for abortions or reproductive services” Short of a Constitutional Amendment ( which won’t happen given the Equal Rights Amendment still can’t make it through Congress) what would Sanders or Warren be able to do to ensure these services were not cut out of UHC, given private insurance will not be an option as a back up?
Every Sanders or Warren supporter I have asked does not have an answer, and given we are talking about a major REVOLUTION concerning UHC one would think they would have a response given 50% of the population would be relying on these services by the government, and we know the Republican playbook already. It seems like a very large disaster waiting to happen after the REVOLUTION that no one has addressed or even thought of.
