I’m delighted to see the diversity on the streets, and the amount of support for the protests. It’s an extraordinarily welcome shift from the reactions to Colin Kaepernick and previous BLM protests.
However, with the support for the protests has come almost universal and instantaneous condemnations of the rioting and looting. I’m a Quaker and Pacifist, so I don’t support any form of violence; however, I’m also a firm believer in seeking to understand first.
So, I think we’ve been missing an important question:
Why is the rioting and looting happening?
I haven’t seen this video up, here. If I’ve missed it, my apologies for reposting. Kimberly Jones has a powerful answer to this question.
How Can We Win
I still don’t support violence or the looting; however, this answer helped me, a little old White lady, begin to better understand ... a little bit more.
Thank you, Kimberly Jones, co-author of the novel I’m Not Dying With You Tonight.
