This is what change looks like in Georgia! Help us now when it counts!
Georgia’s 7th had a robust primary showing that the Dem bench in this Atlanta suburb is deep and getting stronger every year. Carolyn Bourdeaux won the nomination outright with over 50% of the vote, eliminating the need for a runoff – but the diversity and strength of our women candidates in this race was amazing and yet another cause for hope in the Peach State!
In 2018, Carolyn came within 400 votes of defeating Rep. Rob Woodall for this seat that has been R for a generation. She started out in this uphill battle facing long odds. Although Trump only won the district by 6 points in 2016 (and Gwinnett County, which is most of the district, actually went for Hillary), GA’s 7th has been solidly R since 1994. But Carolyn recognized the same changes that propelled Stacey Abrams to new heights statewide - this district is “majority minority”, suburban, and well educated. In other words, it’s a Republican nightmare this cycle. Woodall saw the writing on the wall, and opted out — leaving this an open seat and a great pickup opportunity for the Dems.
Carolyn is incredibly well qualified – she served as a staff member for U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, she directed the budget office of the Georgia Senate, working across the aisle with Republican leadership, and she is a recognized expert and professor in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, the number 1 non-profit university in the nation awarding bachelor’s degrees to African American students. She’s endorsed by Emily’s List, End Citizens United, Congressman John Lewis, Congressman Hank Johnson, former Sen. Max Cleland, former Ambassador Andrew Young, and a whole bunch of other folks.
Carolyn stands strong across the whole range of issues important to us all – including social justice and systemic racism, women’s health, pandemic response, the environment, transportation, and many others. She will lead the fight for sane and just healthcare policy in our nation, using her background as an experienced veteran in public policy. She is a voice for reason and justice in a world gone mad – and we need her more than ever in Congress!
Carolyn’s near miss last cycle sent shockwaves across the country, and showed how Georgia is the front line in the battle for Congress. You can bet that the Republicans are going to pile their reinforcements into the district – and Carolyn has also been named as one of the Dem’s top picks for Red to Blue.
Please help us overcome the voter suppression and intimidation that is rampant in Georgia – I know everyone’s hurting and under pressure, but please chip in what you can. Small-dollar donations have always been Carolyn’s funding engine, and she’s ready to take the fight to the Republicans again!
