Welcome to bookchat where you can talk about anything...books, plays, essays, and audio books. You don’t have to be reading a book to come in, sit down, and chat with us.

I have been reading another book about owning a bookstore and as much as I love books and as much as I probably could open up my house as a bookstore for a while considering all the books I have, I have never really considered the idea for myself. It is not one of my dreams. Why not, I wonder?
...
Would I be able to part with certain books if a customer arrived to buy them? That might be a problem.
Would I be too busy reading the books on hand instead of doing the work involved of getting them on the shelves?
Would I want to give away the books free to people who wanted them and couldn’t afford them?
Would I be able to choose books to sell that other people like to read rather than just what I like?
Hmmm…
The people I am reading about in The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap may have been broke, but they had pizzazz.
