The title picture shows what an entry on the front page looks like. The section shown there is 380x120 pixels on my monitor. It has 4 lines of text information with the following facts:
- Diary title
- Author name
- Number of recommendations by the community
- Number of comments I have not read
- Number of comments in total
- A picture selected by the author to grab my interest
- A chance to mouse over the item to get the first few lines to help me decide if I want to click on it
Compare that with the new Trending list, grabbed at the same resolution on the same monitor. It is 430x150 pixels, which is 40% larger. It also has 4 lines of text (but no picture) with the following facts:
- This is the 11th item on the list, sorted by a mysterious algorithm; it is not just raw recommended and/or comment count.
- Diary title
- Author name
- The fact that the author is not an employee
- Number of comments in total
I’ve lost the information about how many people liked the diary as well as any indication that there are new comments I haven’t seen. I also have roughly 1/3 as much information about the article before I open it up, since I’ve lost both the picture and the hover text. It is also larger by an amount that means that a space that would fit 12 of the old style items only accommodates about 8.5 of them.
How is this showcasing more of the community content?
