Several articles today in the press report that the operator of the Qmap.pub web site, a major source of alleged information from the mythical “Q”, has been outed. Jason J. Gelinas of Berkeley Heights NJ operated the web site, which went dark after his outing, and also a business selling Q-related smartphone apps. Bloomberg reports:
Qmap.pub is among the largest websites promoting the QAnon conspiracy, with over 10 million visitors in July, according to web analytics firm SimilarWeb Ltd., and served as the primary archive of QAnon’s posts. The website aggregates posts by Q, the anonymous figure behind the QAnon theory, and the creator of the Qmap.pub website is known online only as “QAppAnon.”
The fact-checking site Logically.ai identified Jason Gelinas of New Jersey on Sept. 10 as the “developer and mouthpiece” for the site. New Jersey state records connect QAppAnon to Gelinas’s home address, Bloomberg found.
He reportedly works as an information security analyst at Citigroup. Newsweek reports that he has also worked for Credit Suisse. The address listed for some of his businesses on Springfield Ave. is actually the Berkeley Heights post office; “#110" is probably a box number. He was apparently collecting about $3000 a month in donations via Patreon, besides his other related businesses. He was apparently building a social network for Q followers, Armor of God.
I suspect a lot of the “revelations" of Q were made up by a few enterprising operators like Gelinas, who made money out of it. Trumpites want to believe it, so they flock to sites that play to their confirmation bias.
Right-wingers are having a hairy fit about this in the comments on their web sites. Tee hee.
