Dan Olson is a Canadian director, actor, writer, and YouTuber who tends to come across as the stereotypical polite Canuck, but has a deeply intelligent way about his creations. In his own words on his site, Drip:
For the last seven years I've been engaged in a running project celebrating great trash, digging for hidden gems, deconstructing the craft of storytelling, and analyzing the political intersections of media (especially as it relates to the business of art).
I came across the video I’m sharing on another site, on a message thread about flat earthers, but Dan makes as good a long-form video about authoritarianism and its root causes as any I’ve seen in my life. Yes, it is an hour and sixteen minutes long, but he has so carefully and thoroughly crafted his presentation that it is a must-see. If you have ever wondered why you can’t get through to that one conservative uncle, neighbor, or co-worker, Olson deconstructs the mindset of authoritarianism to a level I’ve never experienced before. It is well worth the watch.
