I got the check like everyone else back in April. Actually it was direct deposit. I announced on Facebook I’d be putting the money toward electing Democrats. by donating it all. Well the process is well under way.
In late July I sent $500 to the Joe Biden campaign. So I’m not part of the big haul in August. I figured this is money well spent and I can sleep a little better knowing I’m doing what I can to end this misery we all are having inflicted on us.
I’ve been holding off on the other $700 but yesterday I sent $50 to Sara Gideon running in Maine to end Susan Collins reign of error (and lies so many many lies). Gideon is running about 5% up in the current polls, but figure can’t be to careful Collins has more lives than a hydra and more faces too.
That kind of opened the door and today I did the research and put $50 each into the following Senate campaigns:
Cal Cunningham in North Carolina to retire Thom Tillis. Again, Cal is favored slightly over Tillis and hoping to help push the win home.
Jon Ossof in Georgia to win a seat that might be considered impossible a few years ago. David Perdue is vulnerable and this is a tight race. Most polls have it within a point or two and Ossof is a well know candidate already., I didn’t donate to the other race as Loeffler is currently winning by double digits and I want to try to focus my money better.
John Hickenlooper to defeat Cory Gardner in Colorado. Hickenlooper is likely to win but want to try to make sure. Every little bit counts and if he doesn’t need the money he can always send it to someone who does.
Steve Bullock to defeat Steve Daines in Montana. At one time Bullock was ahead in the polls in Montana. He’s fallen behind. Still time to pull it out though and winning this seat would be extra awesome given it’s dark red status. Bullock is well known as a former Governor.
Theresa Greenfield to take down Joni Ernst in Iowa. Recent polls have Greenfield up by a few percentage points. Don’ want her to struggle for lack of funding when the chance to take down one of the worst senators in the country is on the line. Ernst gotta go and flipping this seat would make taking back the Senate that much easier.
Jaime Harrison to beat Lindsey Graham in South Carolina. Harrison currently trails but it’s close and he’s running a heck of a campaign and Graham is as vulnerable as he’s ever been.
Gary Peters to hold his seat in Michigan. This race shouldn’t be as close as it is, but it’s not a sure thing and losing this seat would make it much harder to take back the Senate. Polling has been all over the place with Peters taking a small lead in recent polls, but can’t be too careful.
Races I avoided are:
Kentucky Senate. I just don’t see Mitch losing. The only state wide office the Dems took the last election was governor all the others went to the GOP and the only reason we took the Governorship was because Bevin was widely despised. It would be nice to send Mitch packing but I think the money is better spent elsewhere.
Arizona Senator — Kelly is apparently loaded for spending cash and is crushing McSally in most polls.
All the campaigns I donated to are listed as tossup states other than Michigan and South Carolina.
Still got $300 to spend. Might just toss it at the DNC or the House Committee and let them figure it out. Want to get the money in well before October so sometime in the next week I’m sending it off somewhere. If people have suggestions, leave them in the comments, but I’m not going to start sending off a bunch of $10 donations to house races.
So that’s how I’m spending my stimulus money. Hope to get a bunch of postcards sent out too. Gonna start working on that soon. I know not everyone can afford this but if you can send money or spend time then please get involved. We cannot afford four more years of this crap.
Edit: i’m off to bed, so I’ll look at any comments (if there are any) in the morning.
