Trauma!
We have moved on. The insurrection was oh so yesterday! What is the Biden Administration going to do today? The staff got out from under the desks and tables walked through the trash and tear gas residue, brought back the MACE, brought back the ballots and got the job done.
We are focused on what’s next. What is the Biden/Harris administration going to do? How is the Biden/Harris administration going to do it? How fast can they get it done? When is Nancy Pelosi sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate? Come on people let’s get going. Yada yada yada. This is what the news sounds like to me now that we have saved Democracy.
The House Minority Leader McCarthy just complained that the House is going to take next week off. In this climate of Biden has to move and move fast, I hope that the least effect people do not make this a thing.
Why?
TRAUMA!
In her weekly briefing, around the 8:30 through the 10-minute time frame Speaker Pelosi talks about the session that was held for the members of the House and the staff concerning Trauma - physical trauma, psychological trauma, vicarious trauma.
House Speaker Weekly Briefing
Trauma does not go away easily. These people will be dealing with this experience for the rest of their lives. One hopes that they will find ways to heal or cope with what they went through. I can’t imagine hiding under a desk while people are banging on the door with intentions of harming me. Then you ask to crawl out from under the desk and go back to work. Seriously? Yes, seriously because it was asked and they did it. Now let them take a pause.
Damage was done. I pray they all find healing and peace.
These staffers are deserving of a break. I hope we can give them a week to decompress and process. Although committees will be in session, so not sure how all that works.
