Voting Rights needs to be America’s Super #1 Priority for Congress. Not sure Congress agrees, judging from the back-and-forth stalemate on Build Back Better and Infrastructure.
Here’s what I’d love to see — any thoughts from you all?
Decouple Infrastructure and Build Back Better Bills. Pass Infrastructure, fast. Tout its benefits.
Pass some version of BBB as a Dem-only version — inadequate as it may be. Let Manchin and Sinema pick whatever low-ball number they will agree to for now. Do it fast, the recent optics are not only chaotic, they are tedious. Promise to revisit in 2023 if the caucus grows.
Debate and pass Joe Manchin’s Voting Rights Bill. Both Stacy Abrams and Marc Elias support it. His ego will insist on it. Without Voting Rights, we can write off 2022, and may never get to have a free and fair election in our lifetimes.
Democrats love their policies. But we are in the middle of an insurrection and Civil War 2.0 is highly likely. Or am I the only one who see it?
