Late October 2021
Rainy along the Florida Gulf Coast so it seems like a good day to post some photos of wildflowers and other observations of nature in my county. Probably a good day to turn on the oven and bake cookies and bread too.
This 200’ on the backslope along the road was designated a county roadside wildflower area. It took a few years to get the county to agree even tho what the county has to do is nothing… don’t mow and see what comes up. I talked to the mowing crew boss the week before and thanked them. It will be mowed in December after flowering is done and seeds will spread.

Also under the pines but found in any open field is Blue Curls.
A good year for Lobelia at the wet bottom of my hill — more than I ever saw before. Pulling up the Sawtooth blackberry may have helped.
Bidens alba — aptly named Beggarticks is abundant. These and the stickies from Desmodium are everywhere.
And one more — found the other day on Agalinis, looks to have been parasitized.
So, thanks for stopping by, hope you enjoyed my observations and see ya in the comments with your bits of nature. Wait one more thing — the news this morning talked of “Bomb Cyclones.” Of course they have a nifty name for this extreme rainfall. Made me think of when my brother moved to the LA region the year before and I sent him this article from Mother Jones about a VERY BIG rain event in California.
