I’ve commented on video games before, mainly on how they can help shape policy or showcase an esoteric idea. This time, it’s plain ol’ mockery.
The Civilization series is 4X game, where the object is to Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate. Pick a civilization, a leader, and go forth! First released in 1991, there have been multiple sequels and expansion packs. The current iteration, Civ 6, features ~50 leaders and civilizations to pick from. In the latest expansion pack, a new game option was introduced, Corporations and Monopolies.
Not to get too into the weeds but: If you develop two or more of the same luxury item, you can build an industry, and later on, products from that luxury to help your economy and influence in the game.
One of the luxuries in-game are turtles, with one of the end products being “Lord McConnell's Decidedly Not Mock Turtle Soup”. No word if it is factory-farmed raised or uses overseas slave labor.
Civ typically does not mention current or recent leaders (except if you do quite poorly, in which you are compared to Dan Quayle). Still, it’s a fun little Easter Egg from Firaxis Games.
