The facts of the case are not in question: his sister’s husband got himself admitted to a thoroughly bogus tribal registry, and used that to scam the government out of qualified minority-advantaged contracts. All evidence points conclusively that he committed a felony fraud, and he was never even investigated by Trump’s DOJ for it. McCarty denies he had anything to do with it and his brother in law said he’d “be surprised” if he found out he wasn’t 1/8 Cherokee. Lol!
“Someone must have pulled the wool over my eyes”
seemed to be his defense stance when the story broke.
Moreover, McCarthy’s wife, father and sister-in-law are (were?) all on the board of the fraud-based corporation that his brother-in-law runs (ran?). If it still exists, well then there’s a whole larger issue to consider of ongoing fraud enablement..
Time to address all that, and what better way than for the Dems to organize hearings into the matter. I’m sure the LA Times will hand over their notes and documentation with a proper subpoena.
I’m sure Merrick Garland could find the energy to do what Bill Barr overlooked after that Times piece came out 2 ½ years ago; he could, that is, unless the statute of limitations has run out.
But there’s no statute of limitations for Congressional investigations into their own members for serious and substantial allegations of criminal behavior while in office: the point of hearings in the House would be to see if McCarthy himself had had any communications with the SBA or whatever other gov’t agency was involved in the “oversight lapse” that awarded contracts to an obvious charlatan in the early 2000s.
The question must be asked because the fraud, centered in McCarthy’s own district, was so blatant and vile (actual disadvantaged minorities were aced out of those contracts); and just as importantly, the Congressman’s entire family benefited from the ripoff, including his own household.
Again, I’m sure the LA Times still has the paperwork and interviews they compiled. Hmm. I wonder if the agent who awarded that pseudo-tribal designation for Sis’ hubby eventually found himself or herself a niche in the GOP criminal superstructure? Inquiring minds, and all that.
