The local ABC affiliate in Lancaster, PA reports that for the second time in a month, a group of Republicans is “auditing” the 2020 vote by going door-to-door to interview voters about how they voted. The group, “Audit the Vote Lancaster” follows on the heels of an earlier effort in York, PA by a group calling itself simply an “election integrity committee.”
Ironically, the new group in Lancaster is apparently operating in secrecy and requiring its members to sign non-disclosure agreements. It sounds like they may lack confidence that their efforts will generate the proof of fraud they seek. It also sounds like they might recognize the potential that some of their members might cross the line from protected speech into voter intimidation.
It goes without saying that efforts like this are not official, and that if someone comes to your door to ask how you voted, you are under no obligation to speak with them. How should you react?
In the context of door-to-door vaccination efforts, Marjorie Taylor Greene suggests that homeowners might shoot the visitors, or at least greet them armed given that “we love our Second Amendment rights.” That’s not an approach I would suggest, given that these “election integrity committees” are already bound together by stupidity and firearm worship.
Instead, you might choose a simple, “get off my property,” or perhaps an even simpler, “fuck off.” Should I receive a visit, my personal approach will be: (1) “I’m going to need to get on my shortwave to get instructions from my overseer in Beijing on how to answer these questions. Do you have a few minutes to wait?”; (2) fire up something good on Netflix.
