Now that America and others have withdrawn from Afghanistan, the troops are getting a parade. Make that the Taliban troops.
I have no clue myself if we will do the same for our troops. I do recall people saying it wouldn’t be appropriate to have a parade for the Iraq troops since we were still fighting in Afghanistan. Seems there was one planned, but Sen. Schumer called for it to be pushed back due to an ISIS attack. Members of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America probably still want one, though I seem to recall that they said it would be more appropriate to have one after Afghanistan was over after that article came out.
Welp, they are home now. And the Canyon of Heroes can still host a parade even in times of COVID, celebrating front-line workers. We’ve had them for athletes as well. The last time the Canyon of Heroes had a parade for veterans was in 1991, June 10 for Gulf War veterans, and June 25 for Korean War veterans. I think 30 years is long enough of a wait.
