Not only did they risk jail time, but many of them ended up catching covid as a result. Of course, their sacrifices were in vain because nothing was done to further along the voting rights bills in the Senate.
Fast forward to the past couple of days with the Texas abortion law. Obviously, as a woman who has exercised my rights and would like the ability to do so in the future if necessary, it's a horrifying development.
Suddenly I'm seeing a lot more interest in what the Texas state legislature has been up to. It would have been nice if this attention occurred weeks ago. Even if most people don't give a shit about millions of voters of color being disenfranchised or having their votes not count in a close election, I feel like there still should have been concern about the extreme measures being taken by out of control GOP lawmakers. Not just in Texas, but in Georgia, Michigan and other states.
It's the classic "first they came for ..." situation. If you see one group of people being trampled on you should be very concerned because you're probably going to be next.
