We had an overnight house guest this week at Casa Rose.
I am sorry to tell you that it all started last Monday morning with a 4:30 AM phone call I received from Dad. I answered the phone “this can’t be good”. He said would you please call 911 I am so dizzy I cannot get out of bed.
So of course I did and of course they took him to Abbott NW heart hospital where he was kept overnight for observation. They suspect one of those inner-ear thingies with wax or calcium deposits breaking off and wreaking havoc, but at his age and with his numerous health conditions, who knows? We are still almost a week later trying to get a callback from his doc for more of the anti-vertigo meds he got in the hospital. (To be fair to the doctor, most of this has taken place over New Years’ weekend, so it’s no wonder he hasn’t been available. But still.)
Anyhoo — rather than let his dog Herbie languish at home overnight with no Dad, I brought him to my place. This was partially because Herbie has had an infection requiring pills every 12 hours. Damned if I was going out in the cold at 9 at night to go over and give him pills. And it has been VERY cold here — minus 12 or thereabouts all day today.
It actually went pretty well here — all parties got along rather better than I expected. Everybody circled around curious — of course everybody immediately started stealing everybody else’s food as soon as it was put down, but everyone knows that the other guy’s food is delicious.
Buzz WAS a little disconcerted when Herbie kept circling around behind him trying to sniff his butt — he kept circling and swishing his tail out of the way and looking at me like “what is WRONG with him, Mom?” Most amusing and a humorous note on a stressful day.
Dad is home from the hospital but I am sorry to say he still has dizzy spells so bad he can’t go anywhere. Doc appt on Jan 7 to try and figure it out and the hospital has scheduled an at home physical therapist. Very distressing for poor Dad. Sigh. Always something.
Still, we’re all above ground another day and Dad and Herbie are back home where they belong. More importantly, I learned that he gets along fine with my boys, in case any more such sleepovers are needed.
Happy Monday and Happy New Year, all! Hope your week has been less eventful than this. Hugs to all and purrs and scritchies from the boys.
