It’s a cold and snowy morning here in New England.
Not as snowy as it is in some places — my college roommate lives near Buffalo, which is getting hammered — but it’s a brisk 10 degrees right now and the sunlight is bright but not strong enough to touch the inch or so that covers the ground. I have a blanket over my legs against the chill (electric heat is so much fun), and I’m not looking forward to leaving the house for a final grocery run before everything closes for Christmas. I’d rather crawl back into bed and cuddle up with the Double Felinoid, who are soft and warm and a true inspiration to cloth as they lie side by side on my blankets.
“Join us, sleep is good,” they purr, and I am very tempted to do exactly that.
Alas, I have things to do. The Solstice is just past and the days are short, and I must go out in quest of food for tomorrow’s celebration at Theresa’s house. Then I must make my house fit for the New Year next week, and the energy audit soon after. The light is returning but only in small increments, and I must do as much as I can while the skies are blue and the snow is elsewhere.
That includes planning the diaries for the first few months of 2023.
Fair warning: I am not going to write any original diaries April and May. I have a paper to write and present at the Kalamazoo International Congress on Medieval Studies in mid-May, and I simply will not have the time for anything else. I work a stressful day job and can only really write on weekends, so the paper must come first. I will post rewinds during that time, with original work thereafter. I will do my best to repost something appropriate to whatever is going on in the world at that time, so watch this space for announcements.
That said, here are the diaries I’ve planned for January and February of 2023:
January 7 — The Non-Sacred King
January 21 — Sean Penn Just Write Stuff
February 4 — Witchcraft and Egyptology
February 18 — Bram Stoker Goes to Lambton
March 4 — The Librarian Who Got It Wrong
March 18 — The Adventures of Trader Horn
So stay safe, stay warm, and remember: the light is returning. Rejoice and take what comfort you may, and may your holiday of choice be one of joy, gladness, and good fellowship. See you in 2023!
Peace,
Ellid
