Despite masking (including while teachings and my kids while at school — even running the mile in PE) ; despite taking precautions galore (yes, I have gone through too many containers of Clorix wipes — I have even cleaned pizza boxes with them and I really should have bought stock in hand sanitizer — I’m pretty sure I am hurting the environment with all of this and that .01% of virus who lives are going to be wicked strong ); despite social distancing (not going out often and when we do masking, including my kids to friends houses — the only ones wearing masks under the age of 18 pretty much anywhere here); and despite getting ALL the vaccines and boosters — my dad tested positive this morning during his intake for a procedure. He is old and has a heart condition. We were shocked!
Last Friday my husband and I started having some minor cold like symptoms ( cough, scratch throat, snot — nothing major and no fever or anything— a bit tired but we are generally exhausted for everything in our lives anyway). Despite not having a fever and symptoms Dayquil could take care of, I still went down and got tested for everything at urgent care on Xmas eve ( COVID, Flu A & B, RSV, Strep — it felt more streppy than anything so I was concerned about that) — all negative. Dr said probably one of the other upper respiratory viruses going around — because there are a ton right now. Kids had nothing. We still masked, kept the air purifiers on, and stayed away from everyone including my dad — especially my dad. Our symptoms were pretty gone by Monday morning (back to work —we work from home). I had to take him to get a blood draw Tuesday ( masked in the car) and the doctors Wednesday (masked in the car despite feeling fine and him having no symptoms) because we KNEW he was having this procedure today.
This morning I took my dad for a 6 am check in. He feels fine - no fever, no congestion, no snot, no cough, no sore throat, etc. Ok — he feels tired, but he is in end stage heart failure so he’s been tired for MONTHS! Not a single symptom. Suddenly, the nurse shuts the curtain, and tells me he need to change his mask to this other one — he’s positive for COVID!
WHAT???
HOW?
WHEN?
HOW?
WTF!
We get home, husband and I go to the pharmacy to get the good tests done — results tomorrow — too long. Take one of the 50 home tests I have been hording — shit I’m positive too! He’s negative, kids negative, but our land mate ( they live across the street from us and who has not had a single symptom) — positive? She just got back last night from her elderly mom’s house — crap does mom have it too? (thankfully no despite having the land mate there since last week)
Not sure where we got it from ( do we all have the same one — not even sure on that). Not sure when we got it either (Last week clearly sometime — but it now has a 3 day incubation time). The only person who might have been a transmitter was seen 7 days before symptoms though — and w were all masking and not that close.
I share this because all of the other people we know who had the rona had fevers, pains, chills, bad coughs for days, lost taste, etc. — they KNEW they had rona because they felt like shit! I just had a minor sore throat and a cough, husbands had the same but less serious, the others have nothing. If dad had not gotten tested, we literally would not have know we have COVID. This is a cautionary tail that you might have it and not even know it.
