Ryan Coogler, the director of Marvel’s Black Panther, as well as the films Fruitvale Station and Creed was handcuffed while trying to make a withdrawal from his Atlanta bank back in January:
Variety reports that back in January of this year, the Black Panther director walked into an Atlanta Bank of America and requested a $12,000 withdrawal via a hand-written note, which also requested that the teller use discretion in counting the money, according to an alleged letter reported on by TMZ. This apparently triggered an alert, the Bank of America employee notified her superior, and together they called the police on Coogler. Two individuals who were waiting on the director outside the bank were detained by authorities, and Coogler himself was brought out in handcuffs. A Bank of America spokesman has addressed the mistake, saying that they have apologized to Coogler, but Atlanta police have yet to comment.
Coogler noted to TMZ that:
“This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on.”
But yeah, we’re a post-racist society dont-cha-know.
