Are “Better Democrats” important to you? I ask because we have a real chance to take out a corrupt Blue Dog in a safe Dem seat, who endorses republicans and doesn’t even live in the district he proports to represent, and who can’t control the republicans in his own committee.
I’m talking about Rep David Scott, who Daily Kos Elections calls, “One of the Lousiest Democrats in the House,” SemDem describes as, “A Disloyal, Non-Progressive ‘Democrat’ in a Blue District,” and Daily Kos The Downballot’s David Nir just says, “Oh For Fuxx Sake”
Daily Kos Elections also asks, “So which Democrat out there wants to primary David Scott?”
I found one...
Atlanta local and actual district resident Shastity Driscoll has stepped up, and she needs your help (in the form of a few bucks via ActBlue).
So why do I think she can win when so many others have fallen short?
First of all, I’ve been on a few campaigns now and Shastity is laser focused on the district and does the work. She’s smart, engaged, progressive, loves talking to voters, and knows what it’s like as a single mother to raise a kid in today’s crazy environment.
She’s also the only female in a four-way primary race, and with the men in congress not doing anything to codify Roe in the past 50 years, people realize it’s more critical than ever to have more women in Congress. (We just barely hit 25% this term...the highest number ever.)
But most of all, she’s all-in on running a campaign using modern marketing techniques that deliver a personal touch to voters, but at scale.
That’s where I come in.
Shastity and I worked on the Atlanta mayor’s race last fall and a few months ago she called me and asked for help running against David Scott in 2024. I talked her into running this year — mostly because I knew the Supreme Court decision was coming down the pike, but also because 2024 is going to be a shitshow and our district is D+20, which means we only need to win the primary and we’d need less money to contact voters than in a presidential year. (And worst case scenario? We build name ID and get any mistakes out of the way.)
So less money needed to win? Check.
Also, as an old Daily Kos Morning Digest noted, Scott is vulnerable and almost lost to Keisha Waites who raised essentially no money. Keisha and I became friends a little over a year ago and I managed to get her elected to Atlanta City Council in November, against two opponents backed by substantially more money and resources. The template I developed and used then is what we’re supersizing in this congressional race now.
Winning game plan? Check.
But she has no name ID and is running against former elected official Vincent Fort and current small town councilman Mark Baker!
Vincent Fort is great, but he’s running an old school campaign and has look-what-I-did-itis. Also, his old district doesn’t really match up with this district. As for Mark Baker? He skipped a community forum and sent a campaign truck to the parking lot. Of a virtual forum. Where only candidates running were in attendance. Let’s just say he’s not going to get very far. And David Scott hasn’t attended any public forums, and is spending his money on billboards.
The thing is, we’re not wasting money on TV, mailers, billboards or radio. We’re not even doing facebook ads. We’re directly talking to the people who will actually vote in the primary and giving them the information they need to take action.
And what we’re doing is super cost effective. For $15, we can personally reach out to 1,200 voters. That means we can take on a 20 year incumbent with over $1mil in the bank for under $20k. That’s insane, but we can do it.
And if we win with your help…
I will have a template that other downballot Democrats can use to crush republicans in their races, almost regardless of resources.
So back to the original question… Do better Democrats matter?
If you think that:
- One of the top 22 most corrupt Democrats need to go
- Someone who doesn’t live in the district they supposedly represent, and who is almost entirely funded by corporate PACs and votes to make discrimination against minorities legal needs to go
- Blue Dogs anywhere need to go
- Democrats who publically endorse and donate to republicans (the same ones that packed the Supreme Court) need to go
Then please throw a few bucks towards rooting out all-around horrible person David Scott.
$20 gets us in front of 1,600 voters.
$100 get us in front of 8,000! voters.
Thanks for reading. Early voting ends this week and election day in Tuesday the 24th. If you donate in ANY amount, I’ll personally KosMail you the results on the 25th.
Literally every penny is going into voter turnout. I’m not getting paid and we don’t have any “consultants” to pay. I’m just laser focused on building the tools and template to get more and better Democrats elected. And Shastity is laser focused on bringing real representation to our district.

Wow! $475 raised in two hours means we can reach out to another 38,000 voters! Can you help us get to $1,000 today?
For a little inspiration, I’d like to point out that I learned how to and created these two informational videos over the weekend, AND LITERALLY ANYONE CAN DO THESE.
If you’re a candidate or working with one, send me a message and I’ll show you how to make them.

So, this is a reality based community and I’ve posted a few facts and figures in the comments in reply to another candidate. Feel free to check out the numbers or the map.
Now that break time is over, I’m diving back in to prepping voter contacts for the rest of the week. I scrub my lists daily of the people who have voted so that I don’t even waste two pennies on outreach.
Thanks again for the donations everyone! The support here is AMAZING!
