I had an argument on the Meta platform about women using smartphone apps to track menstrual cycles. My point was that back before everyone had mobile devices, women used paper calendars. I know that I did, and others did too. The dude, of course it was a dude, argued with me that apps are modern and can do so much more than track menses. Yes, that’s true. Some apps let a user input dates and times of sex experiences and who a partner was. State-sponsored snooping, to make sure no one aborts, will happen. Remember PRISM? No data is private. Bots can detect if someone is late, then resumes menstruating. Police will come to the door with a no-knock warrant.
From what I have read over the years, even deleting data does not make it disappear. It can be harvested with methods I am too technically ignorant of to describe.
This New York Times article makes it clear that Big Brother can monitor anything connected to electronics. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/25/technology/china-surveillance-police.html?searchResultPosition=1
