Russian media (re-reported in Western media) claims that an ammunition depot in Mayskoye, northern Crimea, exploded early Tuesday morning (August 16, 2022). There’s also a transformer fire reported in Dzhankoi, Crimea. The Reuters report (one example) is available here.
Russia is currently claiming no casualties but that evacuations are underway. These incidents occurred one week after the explosions at a Russian controlled airbase in Crimea. Satellite evidence suggests those earlier airbase explosions destroyed several combat aircraft.
Ukrainian officials are aware of the incidents but are not too specific about them. Ukrainian Presidential Advisor Mykhailo Podolyak Tweeted that there’s a “high risk of death for invaders and thieves.”
