This morning I am watching Victor Blackwell’s show on CNN, mostly because I did not want to watch another lawyer talking about Trump on MSNBC. He had the pastor who led the effort for the just released call for a ceasefire. What made the interchange especially compelling was when Victor Blackwell asked the pastor if the organization would think of holding back their endorsement. The pastor was non-committal. Blackwell pushed, “considering who would also be on the ballot?” (Obviously did not want to say Trump). The answer shocked me. He would still not commit. He pleaded that they not be put in that position, to make this type of choice. The sense I got through was that there would be no endorsement, at least not now. Then he wondered how the Democrats could win without so many of their core constituencies strongly behind them.
Biden is putting us all at existential risk, not just the people of Gaza, by not demanding a cease-fire and the ouster of Nettanyahu. I do not care what he believes. The welfare of the country must come above his personal feelings. I believe if things go as they currently are Biden will face a strong challenge in the primary, which will hurt the Democrats no matter who wins. The democratic establishment needs to stop gaslighting us that Biden is the only one who could possibly be the candidate. He will lose a primary in Nevada and he will lose in New Hampshire. Even worse, if he wins, he will be seen as a stubborn old man unwilling to change to a changing world. Biden, against my predictions, has been the best president of my lifetime. I am furious at him for risking everything, for what? A global order that does not exist anymore. I am having trouble imagining voting, let alone actively campaigning for him — although I know I will. There are many who will not.
If Biden does not step up and put his own country first, dark times lie ahead.
