It’s easy to get distracted in the maelstorm of news that surounds former president Don Trump.
The biggest news item for March 9 possibly was the upcoming plan by the Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Bragg to indict the former president in the coming days or weeks. On charges of illegal campaign contributions in the form of hush money paid to a sexual partner.
Of course it’s not possible to say when a trial will begin, or what sorts of long legal battles will have to be fought before a jury can hear the case. Don Trump is famous for using the US legal system to maximum advantage, to delay justice practically forever.
And the criminality of paying to silence speech about sex, as related to campaign finances, that’s a bit difficult to explain to a lot of men and women on the street. It may be hard to explain to a jury too.
But rape is an easy crime for everyone to understand, and I’m sure that’s why the judge was able set a speedy trial date. The rape trial starts on April 25. E. Jean Carroll filed charges in November 2022, immediately after New York State’s Adult Survivors Act went into effect:

In a way, you can thank voters in New York State for that. In order to pass the Adult Survivors Act and other progressive legislation, NY voters first had to put a stop to the Republicans pretending to be Democrats who formerly controlled the NY state legislature.
E. Jean Carroll claims she has DNA evidence on the coat she wore the day in 1995 she encountered her rapist at Bergdorf Goodmans Dept. store in Manhattan.

So, can anyone tell me, what is the possible prison sentence for someone convicted of rape in New York State?
