Bundle? Issues?
I clicked on this Kos-recommended article this morning and found something that made a lot of sense. It seems that when issues are bundled, undecided voters who have one overriding concern that leans R will vote R--even if they prefer the D position on everything else.
AND--there is one issue that IS an overriding one among independents that simply is not discussed well in the media--and unfortunately for us, that issue is generally perceived as a Republican strength. The economy.
The overriding perception among the casual voter is that Republicans care about wasteful spending and fiscal responsibility--and Democrats don't. The casual voter hears what Republicans say, but fails to understand what Democrats actually do.
We need to add that issue to our bundle, with a slogan something like this: "It's time to give Democrats a real chance to stop throwing your tax money at plutocrats and oil executives and INVEST that same money on things that will improve the lives of real people."
If running against a MAGA Republican, it would also make sense to take a position against “fueling the culture wars” and for “restoring a sound American economy”.
We need to run some focus groups--especially in red and swing states--and tease out any other under-the radar issues with get-out-the-vote potential—and then get that information to the local Democratic candidates.
Please add your suggestions to the comments—not only about hidden issues we could tap, but ideas for how to convince Democratic leadership to get on board. I’d really like to see us blow this next election away!
