I've been reading about some of the various threats to our democratic way of life should we allow a totalitarian autocrat to return to the White House. ( I don't have to say it, do I?) Valid concerns about the First Amendment Freedom of the Press, Speech, and Peaceful Protest are alarming. Fourth Amendment protections against forcible search and seizure, double jeopardy, and languishing in prison without charge are threatened. Fifth Amendment right not to be forced to incriminate yourself is on the list for elimination, as well as Eighth Amendment against cruel and unusual punishment.
What of those lesser known Amendment of the Bill of Rights?
Take the Third Amendment. This was written in response to British and Hessian forces forcing colonists to shelter their soldiers in homes, farmland, and public buildings during the War of Independence. To make sure Americans wouldn't face the threat of their own government doing this, the Third Amendment was written.
But what happens should the Commander in Chief decides to declare a permanent national emergency? What if the Constitution is "temporarily suspended"? Add to that the idea that police and soldiers will be immune to any act they do to enforce this "emergency?"
That means not only would National Guard be sent to cities and states deemed subversive to the dictator's interest, but actual platoons from the Defense Department could swarm the streets, break into apartments and homes, garnishee your residence, and you would have to feed them, hand over valubles, and serve them in every way...or else.
If our billionaire compatriots think their vast personal wealth will protect them; I don't think so. What better place to house generals, their staffs, and special forces but a luxurious mansion with vast grounds to forage, and treasure to fund their elevated lifestyle? No amount of electrified security fences can stand against the technology and might of the United States Defense Department.
Think about it. The U.S. military, coming to a street near you.
