WineRev’s Good and Goofy Notes
Watch for WineRev’s G&G notes in the comments to see what others went through, struggled with, and surmounted in the past. His G&G comments are mini Good News Roundups. You can find all his comments here, even today’s, once he posts it. Tech Tip: You can search for >>> in Roundups to quickly find his comments.
WineRev, last Sunday:
The Good News Round Up Sunday edition is open! Our host, 2thanks, has taken a daring approach, going full Geek with a well-cooked, side dipping sauce of Grocking, all warmed up in the AutoHotKey autoclave…….and surprisingly, it works! Even for a non-Windows, “can barely find the on/off button on my keyboard”, techno illiterate like myself. WOW. If I type in #!T106%NaZi##while pressing down on my F47 key, and instantly, in anything I’m writing under Windows will insert
as always, Trump and all his mouth-breathing bastard followers under their red MAGA caps are Nazis trying to be Real Nazis
instantly! Very handy for the upcoming Presidential campaign on line. (And the paper manual User Guide to Macros points out that if I’m the 7163rd user in a day to use the Macro, you come across an Easter Egg…..that automatically sends me hourly reminders of when Easter Sunday is, at least once every 60 minutes, 24/7, hour, at my e-mail address, on all my devices, including Siri, Alexa, the microwave, the hands-off phone function in my car, each TV remote,
bastard followers
and when I check your bank balance at any ATM worldwide, until the end of 2024….)
The Gnuville Breakfast Brunch avoids any “issues” with that by opening with Jet Lag/Daylight Savings Time yawns that are offset by coffee, tea, mocha-cocoa, although the Mimosa Bar tenders have yet to appear.
as always, Trump and all his mouth-breathing bastard followers
The Grousing Time Change Lounge has pixels, comments, recs, cozy chairs, once-again-dark morning windows, and plenty of stories to read, click, reply and even chuckle to in reply. Thanks, 2thanks, for getting us going

Personal note: Hey 2thanks! Could you PM me about a computer issue? Thanks in advance…..
Science
Please share good science news with us! (Especially JSWT, health, environment.)
A good place to look for science news if you are waiting for the Sunday Roundup is the archive of Overnight News Digest. On Saturdays, the OND always focuses on science, though not all of it is devoted to what I would call Good Science News.
Need more good news?
… arhpdx posted a list of good news sites toward the top of a recent Roundup, or you can find that same list in my comment: Good News Sources. Thank you, arhpdx and Mokurai!

You can use the map’s zoom arrows to resize the view and focus on your pin to find neighbors. Please note that the Google Map, though convenient to operate, is visually inaccurate because, among other issues, it enlarges North America and shrinks Africa [Maps present a distorted view of the world by kos].

Tech Talk for Kosacks
- Load-More Workaround: On a desktop or laptop, to banish the Daily Kos Load More buttons, click this link, which opens the main Daily Kos page and shuts off the Load More buttons at the same time. You must Reload any open Daily Kos pages. After that, you’re good to go, but you may need to come back here and click that link again in a few weeks. According to the DK Help Desk, the “Load More” option also resets the user back to the display of the old-style, React comments.
- Got a Daily Kos tech question? Let us know. No question is too basic.
- Solved a tech question recently? Please feel free to brag in the comments.

A Little Bit About Me
I’m finding my path to being paid to create databases from the backend programming spaces of the NGP VAN (VoteBuilder) by political campaigns. I could work for any candidate in the country. I figured out my Venmo issues, and I received my first payment for working as a nerdy database-building consultant for a campaign!
I have a second nerdy skill in my pocket, quite useful for entering political donations into the database for recording political contributions. Depending on the campaign, about 80% to 90% of donations come from ActBlue and are recorded for campaign-finance reporting pretty much automatically. The rest of the donations need to be entered manually.
Of course, one of the major ways to improve (your own or anyone’s) productivity, efficiency, and speed on a desktop is to use all the keyboard shortcuts the program creator gives you. For instance, when filling out an online form, don’t use the mouse to get to the next box, just press Tab. When you move to and from a mouse or trackpad, you lose time, and all of those little movements slow you down.
The NGP VAN was created in 2001, and it is a very clunky program. For various institutional reasons, we are stuck with it. However, I’ve created a set of about 10 keyboard shortcuts that automatically move the cursor into the appropriate field on the donations-reporting webpage. For instance, one of my shortcuts moves the cursor to the ZIP code field and inserts the ZIP code. One character, Alt + Z, does all that, instead of the following time-consuming steps:
- Reach for and hold the mouse.
- Position the cursor on the screen.
- Position the hands back on the keyboard.
- Type the ZIP code.
I can accomplish the same set of tasks with one keystroke.
This afternoon, I plan to go to a party for all the Democratic precinct delegates in my county. The purpose of this afternoon’s party is to celebrate our accomplishments and reconnect. There might be a chance to talk with candidates. I hope to be able to talk to people about my nerdy skills, and see if I can find more campaigns that might need my services. More and better Democrats is my goal, just as it is the goal of many of our Roundup Readers, Kosacks, and citizens of Gnuville. That’s all I have time for today. See you in the comments!
Our Roundup is almost open!
Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, 50% of us do, and 10% are here for the first time! We all do what we can. For 5 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind! Beginners, you are cordially invited to comment!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
This is a group diary, and by my power I declare this Good Gnus Salo(o)n open! Let the good-news sharing and community building begin!
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
2thanks (he, him)
