First, my thanks for all the kind wishes for Gil the Wonder Cat. He is eating, drinking, and purring, and holding his own. My vet and I had a long talk, and we agreed that the best way to handle his condition is daily prednisone shots, whatever food he wants, and plenty of love. He’s gained back some of the weight he lost when his health began to deteriorate in December, grooming again, and sleeping on my bed right now. I don’t know how much time he has left, but he’s happy, well-fed, and not in pain, and that’s what matters right now.
His second-in-command, Astraea Heightclimber, has settled in very well indeed since I brought her home in October. She’s a striking torbie with red streaks and spots throughout her coat, incredibly smooth, satiny fur, and an uncanny ability to jump onto the highest spot in the room: refrigerator, pantry, bookshelves, even the top of a door (not the doorframe, the door). She’s possibly the smartest cat I’ve ever had, athletic and strong, and obsessed with water (she loves to watch the toilet flush, and frequently sits on the rim of the tub between the shower curtain and the liner to watch me shower). I call her either Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong or Kitty Coocoo, and love her dearly.
Finally, as for me...I had carpal tunnel release surgery on my right hand yesterday. It hurts when I do certain things, but overall recovery seems to be going well. It’s put me back a bit on the sequel to my first book, The Black Robe of Flanders, but the tingling and numbness were at the point where I was waking up in the middle of the night even though I was wearing a brace. I can’t wait to get the bandage off on Sunday so I can scratch, let me tell you :)
How is everyone else on this cold and sunny Friday?
