Why is Richard Perle coming on after General Clarke's appearance before the Armed Services Committee? Because Richard Perle has a staff whose job it is to line up gigs for him, scout out good venues, and make sure the media are alerted to the words of wisdom he is about to spew forth.
Aiden Delgado needs at least one of those.
Who's Aiden Delgado? Well, since most information has to be delivered at least three times before it's remembered, most KOS readers have probably forgotten the brief
appearance (lengthy story) of the Arabic speaking reservist who applied for and was granted Conscientious Objector status while he was still in Iraq, doing duty at Abu Ghraib and Nasiriyah.
How did he manage that? How did he manage to end up a lowly mechanic even though he's fluent in Arabic? How did he manage to get C.O. status and survive? One might speculate that his having come from a diplomatic family gave him a little more protection.
Anyway, he's got a story and pictures of war crimes and he's obviously willing to go public (attended the counter-inauguration in D.C) but, given the paucity of the coverage he's gotten so far, he obviously lacks someone to do some intensive promotion and spring for whatever it costs to get him into TV studios, on radio stations, and, eventually, into a Congressional hearing room.
If Kerry hadn't proved himself such a wuss, one might be able to count on him to promote this latter day version of himself. But, since that's unlikely and it would probably be better for people who have more time (more than enough unemployed organizers around, one suspects) to take this project on.
It would seem that Delgado lives in California. The fellow who did the profile for In Motion Magazine is identified as living in San Diego and claims to be reachable at the following:
address .
In addition to organizing appearances for him, someone will have to provide help putting together a BRIEF bio, a portfolio of representative photographs (no more than a dozen) and some supplementary pictures from someone like Dahr Jamail, to show that what he's got is not unique.
Having a compact flyer that can be sent 'round to TV stations wouldn't hurt either.
What's needed most is someone with time who likes to talk on the phone and doesn't mind being on hold. It just took me three days to find out how to schedule a town meeting on the local cable access channel, which turns out to be aching for programming and just needs someone to "produce"--i.e. bring all the players together on time.
So, how about it? Anybody game? To get war crimes before the American public we need to personalize it. Delgado, at least from the description in the onlinejournal story, isn't just another hick from West Virginia or Alabama. He's an experienced world traveler and, now that he's a vegetarian, shouldn't cost much to feed.
Feeding the media, on the other hand, can't be done on the cheap.
