Has anyone else read the NYT op-ed page today? I usually think the Times op-ed page is pretty decent but today they ran an article by Gail Collins that is absolutely beyond the pale (sorry, can't link to it; I read mine in hard copy).
Basically, Collins is repeating the stale argument -- if you can call it that -- that Kucinich and Sharpton are big losers and ought to drop out NOW and stop wasting everybody's time. She snipes that Kucinich has no delegates so far (fact check: Maine, Hawaii; Kucinich has had delegates for weeks) and only two superdelegates, one of which is himself (yeah, since endorsements have been SO helpful this season). She assumes Kerry is cynical when he says that all the candidates should be allowed to debate with him and Edwards. Maybe Kerry is actually sincere in believing that all the candidates should be included. Or at least he's smart enough to know he ought to be respectful to fellow Democrats. Collins has no idea what Kerry's motives are, but she sneers at him anyway for not telling Dennis and Al to go to hell. Then she lambasts Sharpton, not for being a bad candidate but for having the audacity to be a candidate at all.
Collins is so arrogant she doesn't even do basic research before sliming three out of four Dems in the current race. Her argument isn't even fresh; it's been made over and over and over by bored reporters who don't like having to remember a lot of different candidates' names. How did she get this lazy piece of shit printed in the Times?
