General Purpose/Summary Statement:
The Programmer Analyst II position exists to perform highly diversified functions in the process of developing and maintaining software interface programs for FOF's computer systems. Provides technical recommendations and some leadership for the major software applications that are used by Focus on the Family. Recommends, develops, and maintains software that links software applications. Requires occasional supervision and guidance from supervisor and senior programmers. Guides and makes recommendations for more junior programmers

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Focus; adheres to the Standard of Moral Conduct and Statement of Faith; upholds Focus on the Family's ministry in prayer. Demonstrates behaviors aligned with FOF core values.
Participates in training programs for learning, developing, and maintaining software programs for FOF's computer systems. Learns, adheres to, and remains current with FOF's software development policies and standards. Works with vendors of software programs and more junior and senior programmers to develop and document computer interface programs. Maintains existing production software, applies application upgrades, or programs temporary fixes, giving attention to changes that would minimize maintenance. Collaborates with the Database Engineer and Database Administrators on the development/enhancement of data architectures. Guides programmers from other business areas and less experienced programmers in performing the above functions. Proposes software program changes or developments to more senior programmers and teaches those techniques to more junior programmers. Through research, education, and study, remains current with the software used by FOF and the latest developments in the field. Is actively involved in customer relations and spends specified hours a month in the application business user's area. Provides system direction for the application needs in cooperation business teams and reviews junior programmer recommendations. Emphasizes quality and works with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure established standards, methodologies, and processes are used. Emphasizes customer satisfaction and works closely with more senior and junior programmers to recommend possible business solutions and enhancements. Accepts full responsibility for all activities under direct control; ensures that all requirements are defined and met; takes effective corrective actions. Helps develop requirements, goals, schedules, budgets, and action plans; acquires and allocates resources to accomplish objectives. Promotes cooperation, trust and teamwork in own organization; recommends resources in support of other organizations to meet requirements. Consistently initiates improvement and innovation to provide solutions to constituent needs; makes suggestions and implements changes. Knowledge/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience/certification.
- 3-5 years experience as a programmer/analyst or business systems analyst.
- Experienced in leading software development projects.
- Knowledge of business systems platforms and software languages.
- Knowledge of techniques utilized to discover, analyze, and evaluate customer's data, process, and business rules.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
- Proficient in use of computer hardware and software.
- Exceptional analytical and decision-making ability.
- Solid analysis and design skills.
- 1-2 years experience with .NET (preferably VB .NET).
- 1-2 years experience with VB 6.
- Working knowledge of MS Office products.
- Working knowledge of SQL and MS SQLServer 2000.
- Working knowledge of MS-Access VBA programming.
- Working knowledge of FoxPro is a plus.
- Working knowledge of VBA integrations with MS Office products is a plus.
- Working knowledge of VISIO is a plus.
- Working knowledge of XML is a plus.
- Working knowledge of business systems platforms and software languages.
- Working knowledge of techniques utilized to discover, analyze and evaluate customer's data, process, and business rules.
