John Boncore, aka Splitting the Sky, is currently on trial in Canada for his actions in attempting a citizen's arrest on war criminal, George W. Bush, during Bush's visit to Canada in March 2009. The case is highly important in Canada in part because it will be an opportunity to put forth the Calgary Principles: a new set of juridical rules and protocols put forth to combat crime at the highest levels of government.
However the case ends, George W. Bush will still be a free man and his crimes against humanity will remain unpunished. That could be tragic for the world.
Exasperation. That's what I feel when I read about the goings on of U.S. foreign policies. Not just the U.S. NATO, China, Russia, Israel, every national government has a place at the grand poker table. But up to this point, the U.S. still holds the wild card with it's mighty military and global full spectrum dominance capability.
The geopolitical games being played are incredibly complex. An example is the U.S. basically protecting China's claim to the copper bonanza in Afghanistan. China is no weak sister when it comes to exploitation as the Darfur genocide clearly shows. Russia has shown it's true colors when it also invaded Afghanistan, and if it had the power would certainly try to out exploit the United States. Israel has it's own interests and has shown what it's capable of when it doesn't get what it wants.
But the U.S., since World War II, has been the most destructive imperial power in world history by numbers if not percentage. George W. Bush pushed us into that position loud and clear with the illegal invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. Now we have the continued drumbeat to attack Iran before they supposedly kill us all with a nuclear bomb. Duck and cover people, don't stand next to windows. Venezuela, is on the list for failure to combat narcotics operations, violating human rights, "not contributing to democracy and regional stability", and of being the "regional anti-US leader". So the U.S. overthrows Honduras and establishes new military bases in Colombia. The objective is to keep Latin America in line with American interests. Mess with those interests, and there just might be an invasion.
This is a train that may not be able to be stopped until it crashes at the end of the line. That wouldn't be pretty. Armageddon is not out of the question. During the twentieth century, 300 million people died from democide, the murder of any person by a government, including genocide.
We're only in year ten of the twenty first century. The potential exists for this century to be worse than the last.
That's why it's so important for George W. Bush to be arrested, tried and incarcerated as a war criminal. The black operations conducted by the CIA to destabilize countries might continue. Torture will probably continue. But we can't allow any more wars of aggression, illegal wars. We can't allow our government the option to attack Iran, or Venezuela, or Yemen based on the nonsense that those countries pose a threat to our national security. At some point, the situation can spiral out of control and billions could pay. Incarcerating George W. Bush would send the signal that we won't allow it. Not just we, but the people of the world.
Splitting the Sky is a hero. A man who decided to risk whatever he has to try and bring justice to the world. He may not be successful, but he has shown us a possible path to a tenuous peace. George W. Bush in prison would show the world that the people won't stand for it any longer.
I'm certainly pessimistic it will happen. Our current President obviously is not going to help. Our country won't go there. Maybe Canada, maybe Spain. I don't know. But I do know if a crime goes unpunished, it only invites more crime. That's what justice is all about. If we don't get that justice, all bets are off for the 21st century.
