I post this diary today, to express my 100% support for Joe Lieberman's giving Hillary Clinton the power to "strip accused terrorists of their citizenship" bill. I only have one slight problem with it. It doesn't go far enough.
Why exclude from the bill's reach people associated with domestic terrorist organizations or hate groups? There's no logical reason to do so.
If, for example, your organization openly call for "revolt" against the US Government, or you proclaim your desire to "die" rather than acknowledge federal authority -- you should be subjected to the same citizenship stripping procedures.
The same reasoning applies if you threaten to "kill the Republic" because you disagree with its lawful taxation policies.
Or, for example, when you openly compare our President and his policies to Nazism -- thus implying you are willing to take up arms to overthrow them.
When our founders signed the Declaration of Independence, many thought that they were committing an open act of Treason against King George. Thus, anyone associated with individuals who threaten to treat our Government like the founders treated King George -- should also be on the list. Its simple logic.
And, also logically, anyone who praises -- and calls a hero -- someone who committs an act of terrorism against a US official -- should also be on the list.
This should be especially true for any Member of the United States Congress who makes open threats of violence againt our governmental instutions.
Or, for that matter, former or current members of the military or law enforcement who openly carry guns to a court house in an effort to confront lawful officials.
The upshot is -- all those Tea Partiers and even Republicans out there should have their citizenship revoked by our justice department, if they are associated with any of the above sentiments or individuals.
Of course, due process demands that they get a fair hearing to restore their citizenship. And, I should think we should be able to clear up any confusion by -- oh -- say November 10th of this year.
