Don't cry, Johnny. It's okay. Shh there, its okay. (Reuters/Kevin Lamarque)
Holding back his tears:
JONATHAN KARL: And then bottom line, last question, does Barack Obama get reelected? Give me--
SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER: Oh, it's-- (OVERTALK) --it's way-- it's way too early.
JONATHAN KARL: So you think--
SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER: Way too--
JONATHAN KARL: --he can be?
SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER: --early.
JONATHAN KARL: So you think he can win?
SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER: Who knows. But if-- the economy doesn't get better, I don't think he'll win. If people don't feel better about government run healthcare, I don't think he'll win. And if gas prices are $5 or $6, he certainly isn't gonna win.
People with actual government-run healthcare–those on Medicare–feel pretty good about it. A big chunk of everyone else wishes they had that public option as well!
Look, Boehner's own "analysis" makes clear why Republicans have set out to sabotage Obama's and the Democratic agenda since day one–the best chance they have to win back the White House is to fuck up the country so badly, that people mistakenly give Republicans another shot at running it.
Yet despite having effectively sabotaged much of the Democratic efforts, he still can't bring himself to show confidence in his party's presidential chances. It's too early to say? That doesn't sound like someone comfortable with his party's chances.
Count Boehner among those looking for a GOP Big Daddy Savior. Because clearly, Trump, Romney, Bachmann, and that crappy pizza guy aren't doing it for him.
