About 300 people crammed into the library in Benton Harbor, Michigan on Wednesday afternoon to protest the emergency financial manager, Joe Harris.
The meeting started out with a prayer, but the speakers soon took to calls for democracy calling out Governor Snyder and the Emergency Financial Manager, Joe Harris for their takeover of the city of Benton Harbor
John Waltz of HeartlandRevolution.com. Waltz grew up in Kalamazoo and now resides in Kentucky. More than 100 of Waltz’ family members live in Michigan. Waltz’ father worked for General Motors for over 30 years. The economy in Michigan is affecting Waltz personally because his father has had to move in with him due to the cuts to his pension being cut, his health care being cut.
“We are all in this together. We showed them in this town, we’re not going to roll over and play nice. No. No. No. We’re fighting back. They may have a whole lot of money and everything else, but we have the boots on the ground. In the 1960’s when our African American brothers and sisters were not allowed to vote, were not allowed to have the same basic human rights, guess what, we banded together, we fought back, said enough is enough and we made great strides in that area, ” Waltz told the audience.
“History is calling. It’s knocking at the door right now. We have to answer that call. We have to do everything we can to stand up to this dictatorship,” Waltz exhorted the audience.
Waltz also announced an effort to recall State Representative Al Pscholka , a joint effort between Heartland Revolution and the community of Benton Harbor, an announcement that was met with loud applause from the audience. Pscholka has been a strong supporter of the takeover of Benton Harbor by the Emergency Financial Manager, Joe Harris. On January 5, 2011, Pscholka sent a letter to Governor Snyder voicing “strong support” for Joe Harris.
