I am a citizen of the United States of America. I have British, Austro-Hungarian and Russian heritage. My people came to this country to avoid the kind of feudal crap that is being celebrated even here when the grandson of the wealthiest woman in the world is marrying some chick he met in college. The spiritual leader of my church, the Archbishop of Canterbury, will preside. Icky. Icky.
All that money? Where else could it go?
The Saxe-Coburgs, rather the Windsors, are quite the family. Even Americans like them. Funny, because we were at war with these people from about 1775 until 1814. These people burned down the White House. Of course, we have to be friends with them now. They are learning how to speak our language, after all.
I have a problem with Monarchies. Mostly, a problem with the amount of money that is spent to keep them up. My British Grandfather hated monarchy, and the church, too. I think he was right.
I will never understand why we are so enamored of rich people and the scions of their families that once owned us. Elizabeth Windsor is nothing more than an old woman presiding over a dead empire. She might be rich, but as a citizen of the US, that's all she is to me. Were that I were that rich and could have a wedding like that!
