Last night was the White House Correspondents Dinner. This is where politicians, celebrities, and news people get together to enjoy odd foods and have a few laughs. It's nothing to write home about. They have had great ones in the past. Sen. Al Franken, Wanda Sykes, and Stephen Colbert come to mind. I however believe that this one will be remembered for a long time as well. In short, Seth Meyers OWNED it last night.
For the past few weeks, Donald Trump has been hammering the birth certificate issue. It's clear he has no plans of running the country, so he's making as much noise as he can before he goes back to firing celebrities that really don't care about losing the opportunity to work for him. I think Donald needs to hire a better schedule maker because this was clearly a mistake. I'll just say it. Donald Trump has got to be on drugs if he thought it was a bright idea to push this birther nonsense this close to the White House Correspondents Dinner. Say what you will about the president, but his comedic delivery is amazing. The president did exactly what he had to do. He portrayed Donald Trump as a joke. He managed to tie Trump in with conspiracy theories (and we know Donald loves his conspiracy theories) like the moon landing being faked and where Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur are. He also went after the "tough decisions" Donald has made. Primarily his decision to fire actor Gary Busey (aka Sir Teeth-A-Lot) instead of firing Meat Loaf. President Obama got a few laughs out of the Donald and anybody will tell you it was hilarious. The opening video, the birth video of President Obama, and "The President's Speech" were priceless. He even got a few jabs at Fox News. So overall, his performance was great.
Seth Meyers on the other hand is clearly the man of the night. Nobody was safe from his twenty minute laugh fest. C-SPAN, MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News were all victims to Seth Meyers who was dead set on making this his moment. He clearly succeeded. He went down the list of potential republican presidential candidates and stated what we already knew. They are not only boring, but laughable. Tim Pawlenty, Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and the ones he didn't name all share in the boring factor. But this is where it started to get good. Meyers set his sights on Donald Trump and just like how Donald refused to let the birther issue go, Seth Meyers refused to let Donald go. He started off his evisceration of Donald with this joke.
Donald Trump often talks about running as a Republican, which is surprising. I just assumed he was running as a joke.
It went on and on and on. President Obama got a few chuckles out of Trump but Seth Meyers got none and I don't think he was intending on it. Trump was clearly uncomfortable and I think it's refreshing to see him that way. Seth would then set his sights on President Obama and Vice President Biden. It was very entertaining and hopefully everybody enjoyed it. Yes, Donald went to Fox News to complain about it. He was surprised that he was the primary focus. I guess he wasn't listening to the jokes about Anderson Cooper, Chris Matthews, Larry King, Michele Bachmann, President Obama, and others. I guess he was sleeping through those jokes. Wait a minute! He wasn't sleeping. He was wide awake. Him being the central focus was made up. It was a lie. It was complete nonsense. Trump didn't even wait 24 hours to go running back to Fox And Fiends (I mean Friends) to complain about the jokes. I guess he didn't see any of these dinners before. He didn't know this was going to happen. Also, this guy got roasted on Comedy Central. Seth Meyers used no profanity at all. He didn't complain about being roasted before. Why complain now? It's because he's embarrassed. The birther issue blew up in his face, republicans are starting to move away from him, and his past is starting to come back to haunt him. Donald Trump is a man who wants the last word. In the 2012 Presidential Election, he will not have the last word. He won't even be a participant. Trump has ran his mouth and at the White House Correspondents Dinner, he got destroyed. I suppose he will send some of his "investigators" to look into Seth Meyers' birth certificate now. We knew Donald Trump was a joke. We knew he had some time of animal on his head. We knew he was thin-skinned. After last night, there is no doubt of these things. The president got a small piece of revenge and Seth Meyers hit a grand slam. I don't know about you, but I would love to see an encore next year. My final question however is this. If Donald Trump thought last night was inappropriate, can you imagine if George Carlin was still alive and he was telling the jokes?
