So, Frank Luntz's post-debate crowd decided to crown pizza tycoon Herman Cain as the winner of last nights' FOX GOP debate.
Can you just imagine how the campaign would play out if he ends up winning the nomination?
--The entire general election GOP strategy would be, "SEE? WE HAVE A BLACK GUY TOO!"
(granted, that didn't work out too well for Michael Steele, but still...)
--The entire media coverage angle would be "TWO BLACK MEN ENTER, ONLY ONE LEAVES: WHICH BLACK MAN SHALL PREVAIL?"
--Full-bore racists would have a heart attack--whether they vote for their guy or don't vote at all, a black man would still be in the White House for the next 4 years.
--Semi-bore racists would grudgingly vote for their black guy instead of the socialist black guy.
--Hell, the GOP might even try to claim that they're being more racially progressive than the Democrats because they're running a "true" black guy, not a "half" black guy like Obama.
--In fact, I could easily see them trying to woo black voters by suddenly shifting gears and emphasizing Obama's "whiteness". After 4 years of screaming about his KenyanMooslim® heritage, they'll suddenly decide to paint him as a Kansan-raised White Boy. Expect to see the same deliberately darkened photos of Obama suddenly reappear as lightened pics.
Instead of racist photos depicting Obama as a cannibalistic African tribesman with a bone in his nose, expect to see parody photos of him and Michelle as the "American Gothic" couple. Pictures of Ann Dunham will be prominently displayed in Republican campaign ads.
Hell, by the time they're done, they'll be painting Obama as being whiter than Pat Boone.
It'd be fascinating to watch play out, that's for sure.
