My usual SPARK source is apparently experiencing difficulties, but I've come up with a "creative alternative" appropriate for the news of the day - which I'll roll out in a bit. ;D
For now, it's time for "this day in history." On this date in 1913, the 17th amendment to the Constitution, providing for the popular election of U.S. senators & a "favorite" among the more bat$hit of our population, was ratified. And, wish actress Rosario Dawson a happy 32nd birthday today! If you've never seen her in Clerks II, you MUST! :D
Now, I present my SPARK "creative alternative" version for tonight! Is there ANYTHING Family Guy doesn't know?! ;D
On with The Rachel Maddow Show!
"A Very Special Election" - Must I think about Hillary Clinton being a Dem POTUS candidate?! Yuck. It's still galling to me that she's SOS. I know that's a minority opinion, but it's how I feel. Is NY - 26 rearing its ugly rear again?! KEWL! Oh wait, maybe I'm thinking of another district - the 1 where the GOBP candidate kept flipping back & forth with the "establishment GOBP" was primaried out. I guess Mr. Gawker Shirtless Flexer is another district. ;D The election in that district is a tie stat - wise when it should be a runaway GOBP winner! HA! Is it because the GOBP is being especially bat$hit these days? HA! Rachel brought up the other NY district; great minds think alike!
Speaker Sobbin' Small Price to Pay Goldilocks even went to that district to save (or try to save) some GOBP a$$! And, the reason why this election is actually a race is because of the bat$hittyness of the GOBP. The plan to kill Medicare has apparently been dropped; I bet the GOBPers in the House seeking re - election are just thrilled! I'm crying a river - NOT! Serves them right. Lamb Chop is in this segment to talk NY - 26! ;D The majority of voters in this district are elderly & are not crazy about Medicare being sparked around with. Chris made a faboo point; the economy is still basically in the terlet. The GOBP kept touting "jobs jobs jobs" & stuff in their 2010 campaign, and they've done nothing to create "jobs jobs jobs!" It's all been about re - fighting the culture wars.
"Really Really REALLY Big Government" - I'll be pleasantly surprised if my fair state DOESN'T make the cut for this segment. &^%$#@! OK, we get bat$hit anti - abortion in SD first - not news for those paying attention. Their law is worse now?! $HIT!
Waiting periods are not only longer, but SD is telling women waiting for abortions how to spend that waiting period time. Wow...&^%$#@! OK, we're about to the point of where the ACLU or Planned Parenthood or SOMEONE to go to court over the constitutionality of these draconian laws. We're about to the point where, and my mind is not at ease by saying this, people who are serious about abortion services being a protected legal procedure are going to have to take their chances in front of SCOTUS. Maybe, Kennedy can be a "swing vote" in the pro - Roe VS. Wade side, or, maybe by the time any cases get to SCOTUS, President Obama will have had another chance to nominate another justice. Oh, and none of these "crisis pregnancy centers" in SD have been registered with the state - OOPS! Sarah Stoesz heads Planned Parenthood for MN, ND, and SD - lucky lady!
Planned Parenthood in that area plans to sue. There are also no HIPAA privacy protections at these "crisis pregnancy centers." Nice... &^%$#@! SD voters have rejected abortion bans TWICE? How come SD voters aren't voting out their reps for not following the will of their constituents?! Good sparking' grief... *&^%$#@!
"Really Really REALLY Big Government Part Deux" - Wow! I've never seen pics of Henry Hyde as a youngster! ;D We got a review of the "Hyde Amendment" as far as abortion access & funding. Rep. Louise Slaughter is NOT amused by attempts to further the thought behind the Hyde Amendment. The GOBP is willing to raise taxes to prevent abortions.
"AQ Outtakes" - Hey! Rachel got into my diary draft - CHEAT! ;D Our intelligence officials might be granted access to OBL's widows. And, how pathetic did he look in front of that craptacular television machine clutching a remote like a typical guy?! I missed the 60 Minutes interview last night; President Obama's pretty sure OBL had some help inside Pakistan to keep him hidden. Gee...YA' THINK??!! *&^%$#@! Evan Kohlman is in studio to talk AQ/OBL tapes & information taken in the raid that killed him. Mr. Kohlman looks like he's had a dye job himself lately! We're being accused of war waging in Pakistan without their approval? Yea, that's rich. Can we PLEASE stop giving them money?! &^%$#@! OBL's likely successor doesn't have the chutzpah as his now - deceased boss did. ;D
"Stars and Bars" - We really like to lock people up here - hence the lovely "lock down" marathons on MSNBC on the weekends, I guess. ;D The southeast really likes to lock people up - especially LA! Their state capitals kept changing during the Civil War; well, changing the stationery had to be a pain in the a$$ {insert rim shot here}. :D The Caddo parish courthouse just LOVES to relive that Civil War history; they even fly the confederate flag in front of the joint. An African - American man is a little hesitant to serve on a jury there. I simply cannot imagine why!
And, people wonder why I avoid the South.
