CBN's David Brody reports that in an apparent attempt to curry favor with the religious right, Donald Trump is due to meet tomorrow with several prominent pastors.
Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s executive vice president and special counsel, tells The Brody File that Rev. Paula White, pastor of Without Walls Central Church in Lakeland, Fla., arranged the meeting. She has been a close friend of Donald Trump for many years and lives in one of the many buildings Mr. Trump owns. She is also known widely within the Evangelical community.
Mr. Cohen would not reveal the substance of the meeting or who would be attending but did confirm that more than two dozen people will be there. It is expected that most of them will be pastors, not political Evangelical leaders. He said that the meeting is private.
No word as of yet on who will be there. To my mind, though, it's pretty telling that he's meeting with them so soon after all but announcing that he's going to run for president.
Trump has attracted a good deal of interest from several religious right leaders, like Franklin Graham and Tony Perkins. However, the rank and file are less sold on him because of his gambling interests and his three marriages. So it's not entirely clear whether this meeting will smooth things over.
Nonetheless, this meeting tells you nearly all of what you want to know about him, especially since we don't know who's going to be there. After all, Trump's entire campaign has been a massive pander to two of the most extreme elements of the GOP--the birthers and the religious right.
