Based on the title of his new book, Revolt: How to Defeat Obama and Repeal His Socialist Programs, Dick and the League of American Voters (LAV) are going to "run an all-out attack" on Obama because he is spending so much money and lying to the American people. He called with a recorded message and asked me to take a poll on the best conservative to replace Obama.
Dick's assistant came on the line and when I indicated I couldn't think of the best conservative to run, he in order listed Chris Christie, Donald Trump, Mike Huckabee, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Sean Hannity, and Sarah Palin. Ron Paul and Mitt Romney didn't make the list. I told him I thought Newt Gingrich should be the nominee because he shut down the government several years ago when he didn't get what he wanted.
The assistant said, "Newt is a good choice. We love Newt." He then explained how I could sign onto the ad that will run in USA Today against Obama, that I should contribute $100 or $200 to help pay for the ad, and Dick will send me an autographed copy of his book, released March 1 of this year.
I told him I live predominantly on Social Security (SS) and the young male assistant said his mother also lives mostly on SS and that she's having a hard time. I told him I didn't have money to help with an ad, then wondered aloud if conservatives were on the wrong track, proposing to cut SS and Medicare when Republicans need the support of elderly voters. He changed the subject back to the mantra that Obama must be a one-term president.
While my call was about Obama, Morris has run robo-calls to assist Governor Scott Walker in his attempt to undercut unions. LAV is busy, supporting union-busting, demanding tax cuts for the wealthy, and hoping to rid the nation of Obama's leadership.
LAV shares the same street address and suite number as Grover Norquist's Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). These groups receive most of their funding from the Charles R. Lambe Foundation, one of several foundations created by David and Charles Koch, billionaire brothers who lead Koch Industries. Morris helped create LAV and in turn, is promoted by LAV through Newsmax.com, the media outlet started by Richard Mellon Scaife.
Daily we learn more of how the Koch Brothers are spreading their money around. For some time we've known about their political activity to assist Tea Party types. This week we learned that for several years they've been giving money to public institutions in order control what instructors and professors in economics are hired and what information they convey to their students. For a time the Koch Brothers moved with stealth, but thanks to Media Matters, Rachel Maddow and Kos, to name a few exposers, they are finally receiving the publicity they deserve. Their goal is to complete the conversion of the Republican Party to the Party of the Wealthy, and if the 2010 election outcomes are repeated, they could be a smashing success.
