Rick Perry accuses scientists of 'manipulating' climate data
Guardian.co.uk -- 08/18/2011

Rick Perry:
I do believe that the issue of global warming has been politicized. I think there are a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data so that they will have dollars rolling into their projects.

Oh Really? Political Gain, Manipulating the Data, Rolling in Dough?
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) -- Organization
Thousands of scientists from all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC on a voluntary basis. [...]
The IPCC is a scientific body. It reviews and assesses the most recent scientific, technical and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of climate change. It does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters.
[...]
The Secretariat coordinates all the IPCC work and liaises with Governments. It is supported by WMO and UNEP and hosted at WMO headquarters in Geneva.
The IPCC is an intergovernmental body. It is open to all member countries of the United Nations (UN) and WMO. Currently 194 countries are members of the IPCC.
[...]
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge in climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts.
Sounds like those Scientists are working on-the-cheap, to me -- as per 'Standard Political Operating Procedures' in Capitalist economies ...
-- where the very first question always is:
What's in it for Me?
IPCC WORKING GROUPS / TASK FORCE
The IPCC Working Group I (WG I) assesses the physical scientific aspects of the climate system and climate change.
The main topics assessed by WG I include: changes in greenhouse gases and aerosols in the atmosphere; observed changes in air, land and ocean temperatures, rainfall, glaciers and ice sheets, oceans and sea level; historical and paleoclimatic perspective on climate change; [...]
The IPCC Working Group II (WG II) assesses the vulnerability of socio-economic and natural systems to climate change, negative and positive consequences of climate change, and options for adapting to it.
The assessed information is considered by sectors (water resources; ecosystems; food & forests; coastal systems; industry; human health) and regions (Africa; Asia; Australia & New Zealand; Europe; Latin America; North America; Polar Regions; Small Islands). [...]
The IPCC Working Group III (WG III) assesses options for mitigating climate change through limiting or preventing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing activities that remove them from the atmosphere.
The main economic sectors are taken into account, both in a near-term and in a long-term perspective. The sectors include energy, transport, buildings, industry, agriculture, forestry, waste management.
[...]
All those Labs-Groups must have a few Monthly Bills?
Well in fact -- they do. Science isn't always Free, even if the Time of Scientists may be.
HOW THE IPCC IS ORGANIZED
IPCC Trust Fund [Uh-oh!]
IPCC activities, in particular the participation of developing country experts in the IPCC work, and publication and translation of IPCC reports are supported by the IPCC Trust Fund to which Governments, provide voluntary contributions. Governments provide further substantial support for activities of the IPCC, in particular through hosting Technical Support Units, supporting the participation of experts in IPCC activities, organising meetings and contributing to translations. WMO, UNEP and the UNFCCC provide also financial support. WMO hosts the IPCC Secretariat and WMO and UNEP provide one staff member each for the IPCC Secretariat.
Well, no worries, those GOP Penny-Pinchers are all over it.
If it's NOT making money for their Big Oil Backers -- apparently "it's just NOT worth doing" ...
Just ask Joe ...
Amendments to kill U.S. funding for IPCC proposed for House 2011 appropriations bill
by Nick Sundt, climatesciencewatch.org -- February 18, 2011
[...]
He [Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (Republican, Missouri)] also claimed that the legislation would save taxpayers $12.5 million -- a wildly inflated claim since the recent average annual U.S. contribution to the IPCC is closer to $2 million.
[...]
In March 2010, Texas Congressman Joe [We Owe BP-an-Apology] Barton (Republican) sought to halt U.S funding for the panel
Four months earlier (in December 2009), Joe Barton dismissed mounting evidence that climate is rapidly changing, that the impacts already are evident, and that it is being driven by rapidly increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases emissions from human activities. "We don’t have an icecap in Texas," said Barton
Seems more like an unshakable Drought in Texas, Joe ... No Melting Icecaps there, Indeed!
Well as long as they save that annual 2 Million dollars from going into that "Climate Scientist Slush Fund".
-- Nevermind, what dropping that "R&D Insurance Policy" might cost America -- in the long run;
Er ah, Is costing America -- RIGHT NOW!

Four global warming impacts alone -- hurricane damage, real estate losses, energy costs, and water costs -- will come with a price tag of 1.8 percent of U.S. GDP, or almost $1.9 trillion annually (in today's dollars) by 2100.
$1.9 Trillion is Damages VS $2 Million in Preventive R&D
-- You Do the Math! {that would be about a Million% Return on Investment.}
Millions-Smart, while Trillions-Stupid.
America -- That's what the GOP has to offer you.
To offer your Children in terms of their Future Economic Security; in terms of their Future Jobs.
That and of course, more Joe Barton style Big Oil Butt-Kissing.
Who looking out for you? It's NOT the GOP Anti-Science Tea Party!
Meanwhile the very Real Risks of Climate Climate keeps going up, Up, UP ...
larger
Even as the IQ of the average GOP supporter keeps going Down, Down, Down. Must be all that Home-Schoolin' they keep doing down in Texas.
Climate Change is NOT an Article of Faith, despite whatever Rick Perry might believe.
Climate Changes are detectable Facts of Nature. They have the Data.
Scientists aren't Stupid! They specialize in "Reading Data". They will do it for FREE, if its important enough.
Hmmm? Go Figure! Rick Perry's "SuperPAC Slush Funds" backers must be getting worried?
News Flash: If a GOP Candidate suddenly stops "Believing in Gravity" -- It DOES NOT MAKE it SO!
-- I seriously doubt they would take that Next Step ... and Jump off the nearest Bridge!
Then again, if it's a Bridge named "Irrational Rhetoric" -- you never know. Most likely they've already taken THAT Leap!
